The termination of employment due to permanent disability under Law 2/2025: scope of application and challenges
Keywords:
Permanent disability, people with disabilities, welfare state, Law 2/2025Abstract
Throughout history, people with disabilities have faced significant social and economic challenges, which are now being addressed through legal frameworks. In this regard, the automatic termination of an employment contract due to a declaration of Permanent Disability represents yet another example of the discrimination and lack of opportunities experienced by workers with disabilities. Therefore, the reform introduced by Law 2/2025 marks a further step toward the protection of people with disabilities, granting workers the opportunity to maintain their employment relationship through the employer’s implementation of reasonable adjustments to adapt the job position to the needs of the disabled worker.
