Promoting self-employment through unemployment protection

Abstract

Given the current unemployment rate and the turn to policies promoting self-employment, this study addresses both the legal regulations and the life cycle of a prerogative that acts as a cause and effect relation between these two situations, that is, the option of harmonizing pubic protection for unemployment and a new professional activity, or, where appropriate, discontinuing the former for a certain time as a measure to foster the latter. However, and despite the efforts of the legislator, the results are not good, and as a result, raise the debate about the inadequacy of the unemployment protection model.
