Abstract

This article analyses the maternity protection of private freelance lawyers. First of all, the problem related to the elective system of social protection is addressed, since while lawyers affiliated to the RETA can stop working and receive a periodic payment subsidy in case of maternity, the affiliates to any of the different mutual societies providing social welfare substitutes have a meagre protection system. Lastly, the possible paternal use of maternity leave is analysed when the mother is a freelance lawyer.
