Abstract

On November 28th, 2014, British Prime Minister David Cameron gave a speech on immigration issues, focusing on the free movement of workers and on the need to limit and restrict certain aspects of this freedom. The English politician presented a number of proposals, which are analyzed in this article, for whose implementations would, in some cases, be required essential changes in the Treaties and, consequently, the unanimous acceptance of the other Member State of the Union. Moreover, he required the adoption of certain measures to prevent fraud and abuse in the acknowledgment of benefits to citizens and workers from other Member States (some of these measures can be applied already with the approval of the Commission and the ECJ). In this sense, the most important part of the speech was the direct and indirect attack to the free movement of persons and workers, one of the fundamental pillar of the Europe of citizens. The statement of the U.K. supports, in this issue, some positions of the Eurosceptic movements that are emerging in Europe.
