Abstract

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has led to the widespread use of remote working in those sectors in which it is possible to implement as a fundamental way to avoid the contraction of the coronavirus and to allow for social distancing.

However, we cannot hide the fact that due to the sudden onset of the epidemic and its staggering ease of spread, the reality of remote working, which was hitherto unusual, especially in Spain, has been imposed suddenly, urgently and without the due establishment and maturation that this type of disruptive process requires.

In this article, we want to broadly address this type of work performance, referring to its origins, its justification and rationale, the undoubted advantages and the disadvantages it presents, and its legal regulation. We will also mention remote working in public administration and we will end with some conclusions on all the aforementioned.

To carry out this work, we have made use of studies carried out by various specialised authors, recently published articles and news items of a journalistic nature, the analysis of the relevant regulations and our own professional experience as civil servants in the Social Security Administration.
