Abstract

This paper analyses the four institutions that form the complementary social security in Portugal. The first are the so-called complementary collective initiative schemes, which is the Portuguese legal term related to private pension plans and funds. The second is the so-called public capitalisation scheme, which is a specific kind of said pension plans and funds. The third is the so-called voluntary social insurance scheme, stipulated by a potential beneficiary with the Portuguese Social Security. And the last one covers social security increases created by collective agreement.
