Abstract

In an innovative way, the Supreme Court is gradually expanding the concept of workplace accident ("numerus apertus") set forth by Article 156 of the General Social Security Law. Contrary to current majority judicial principles, the Supreme Court ruling of 21 June 2018 recognised the retinal detachment suffered by a worker while in front of a computer or VDU (visual display unit) as a workplace accident, in the exercise of her role as a Social Security administrative assistant.
