Abstract

This book is dedicated to the study of Professor Borrajo Dacruz’s scientific work and perfectly aligns with the professional characteristics of the person being honored. It provides opportunities to examine the historical background of our legal system (to contextualize and understand the present outcome) and to address many of the issues that the recipient tackled. It is easy to link various legislative policy decisions with those of political and ideological importance regarding Social Security issues (what kind of society or family is tacitly preferred, what type of contributory protection is desired, what compatibility regime is established, or how the protection and management apparatus is financed), labor contracting (duration, novations, extinction, modes), the system of sources (collective agreements or regulations, etc.) or access to the job market (employment, immigration, temp agencies, training, etc.) and so on.
The above means that we are dealing with issues that can only be addressed in depth when one has the ability to alternate a panoptic view of Law (even of the Social Sciences), the technical knowledge necessary to understand and agree on the normative framework (sometimes more like a labyrinth than a true system), and the critical ability to contextualize the regulated institution. If we add personal enthusiasm for transmitting one’s own knowledge, for convening debate forums, or for inspiring university vocations, we have an approximate profile of what Dr. Efrén Borrajo Dacruz represents for Labor Law and Social Security.
Although it may be unusual, I want to take advantage of this portal to thank those who have promoted this initiative for counting on me. This way, there is a documentary record of my recognition and admiration for a first-class professional trajectory and undeniable impact on the landscape of our labor law.
