Informal economy, work and social protection: international defense of decent work
Keywords:
Decent work, informal economy, vulnerable groups of workers, social protectionAbstract
The informal economy represents social differences in our societies in a paradigmatic way. Of course, social inequality has no exclusive cause in the informal economy, but is an important factor in its existence. The informal economy is favored by the weakness of states. Society demands new forms of governance able to guarantee compliance with legal standards. In this sense, the promotion of decent work by the International Labour Organization seems the appropriate stage for strengthening the enforcement of labor standards. The strategy designed at the 104th International Labour Conference to facilitate the transit of the informal to the formal economy regains this spirit.
