Abstract

This paper aims at reviewing the evolution of the theoretical interpretation of the socioeconomic effects of collective bargaining, from the vision of collective bargaining as an imposition to the optimizing dynamics of the free market, to the more modern interpretation of collective bargaining as a countervailing power of the monopsonistic position of firms in labour markets. This survey is done from the perspective of the theoretical and empirical analysis.
